In recent years, the demand for greater data center capacity has continued to grow, yet many traditional solutions lack efficiency and sustainability. With support from the Norway Grants, Latvia's leading information technology infrastructure company, DATI Group, has developed the first data hosting and analytics services in the Baltics tailored for the simplified creation of development and testing environments - FLEX Cloud Services.
As part of the project "Development of a New Multifunctional Big Data Analytics Platform in a Sustainable Container Data Center", a physical data center was established in Riga alongside the development of a cloud service offering. The total project investment amounted to 736,768 euros, with 55% co-financed by the Norway Grants support programme for SMEs.
"FLEX Cloud Services" will offer pre-configured and ready-to-use tools essential for developers, system administrators, and business developers. Furthermore, client data storage will be ensured in compliance with EU regulations.
Rasa Gulbe, Board Member of DATI Group, states: "Having analyzed the current cloud services market, we are confident that FLEX Cloud Services will be competitive both locally and internationally. We expect at least 30% of our clients to come from outside Latvia."
Sustainable data centers deliver top-tier security and performance while minimizing their ecological footprint. Instead of constructing a traditional building, DATI Group chose an efficient and flexible solution - housing the data center in an easily expandable container powered by solar energy.
During the solution's development, collaboration was established with Norway's leading energy consultancy company, Norski Energi. Norwegian experts provided guidance on designing a heat storage and redistribution system for the installed infrastructure and conducted an assessment for the procurement and management of solar panels. The implemented heat transfer system will prevent 76.63 tons of CO₂ emissions from entering the environment. Furthermore, the heat generated by the equipment will be utilized to heat the adjacent office complex.
"Latvia has significant IT export potential - skilled specialists, global experience, and a practical approach to solving business challenges. Often, the missing piece is an investment to unlock this potential. Thanks to the support of the Norway Grants, we have been given this opportunity," emphasizes R. Gulbe.
